family-xmass2016-2Dear Friends,

A few friends have asked if they could help with some of my expenses.  Their generosity started me thinking about the concept of fundraising.

After much consideration I have decided to accept donations from friends interested in helping to offset my expenses. However, and more importantly, it occurred to me that I could make my walk more meaningful by also raising money for a cause, one which has great significance to my family.  I would like to encourage you to make a donation to the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation.  Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic bone disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily. It is also known as “brittle bone disease.”  These genes affect how the body makes collagen, a protein that helps strengthen bones.  The condition can be mild, with only a few fractures during a person’s lifetime.  In more severe cases, it can involve hundreds of fractures that occur without any apparent cause.  Treatments include bone-strengthening medications, physical therapy, and orthopedic surgery.

Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation:

My nephew Eric, who was born 43 years ago with OI, has been an inspiration to me his entire life.  I’ve watched him grow up facing  the many unique challenges of his life with grace and humor.  He has become a successful attorney, husband, and recently a father.  He and Janine welcomed Charlotte Grace into the family last July.  She inherited IO but due to the research and efforts supported by the OI Foundation, new treatments have been developed. Due to these discoveries, Charlotte has commenced a treatment program that promises to enhance her quality of life and reduce the many of the challenges that Eric faced.

I will be walking more than 650 miles, 1000 kilometers, or 1,300,000 steps. Choose to donate per mile, kilo, or step. Any amount you choose is most appreciated and your donation will be helping many young lives and their families . Thank you.

More importantly PLEASE consider donating to the IO Foundation. They have established a  Eric & Charlotte Grace Ludwig Fund page. The OI button below will connect you directly with the Foundation site.

Regardless of your choice to donate or not, I will be taking each of you with me in my heart. I want you to all know that I feel blessed to have each of you in my life.

I will be posting to my Blog Journal page and to Facebook periodically if you would like to follow along with me on this journey.

Thank you for your friendship, love, and support.

Gratefully yours,

Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation:
